What are Skills Bootcamps?
Skills Bootcamps are free, intensive training courses funded by the Department for Education. They typically last 12 to 16 weeks and are designed to give you job-ready skills fast — with a guaranteed job interview at the end.
They’re not like a university course or a long apprenticeship. The whole point is speed: you learn a specific skill, prove you can do it, and get connected to an employer who needs that skill. The government pays for the training through the Adult Skills Fund, so there’s no cost to you.
Key fact
Skills Bootcamps are completely free for eligible learners and come with a guaranteed job interview on completion. The government pays for the training through the Adult Skills Fund.
How Skills Bootcamps work
Here’s how the process works:
- Duration: 12 to 16 weeks, part-time or full-time depending on the provider
- Delivery: online, in-person, or a mix of both — varies by provider
- Provider: run by approved training providers, not directly by the government
- Outcome: a guaranteed job interview with a local employer when you complete the bootcamp
- Cost: free for eligible learners
The training is practical and employer-led. Providers work with local employers to design the curriculum, so what you learn matches what employers actually need.
