Management Personal Statement

Sample Management Personal Statement

As an Arab Palestinian whose family operates a successful business and who has been educated in an international academy in the United Kingdom, it is perhaps unsurprising that my perspective on life is informed by a passion for global entrepreneurship. Various experiences of working in my family’s coffee production business since I was a child have given me a real taste for the infinitely captivating world of international commerce. I have experienced life at all levels of the company, ranging from the factory floor to the board room. The decision-making processes that I have seen in play at company meetings have helped me to understand the factors that are taken into consideration by company executives; observing the factory production line at work has helped me to understand the ways in which managers monitor performance and ensure optimum levels of productivity. Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of being involved with the family business, however, has been the opportunities that it has given me to travel around the world and witness the workings of global enterprise. The processes of developing contacts, cultivating professional relationships and brokering mutually beneficial deals never fail to intrigue me, and I hope that studying Management in the UK will give me an opportunity to develop the skills that will allow me to be involved in international business in the future.

I have been instilled with the belief that global business should be seen as a force for good that helps to encourage cooperation and harmony between different peoples. In accordance with this outlook, I have been studying at an international college in the United Kingdom for the last few years. Doing so has already offered me the opportunity to meet other like-minded young people who also have their minds set on international business careers. It has been a pleasure to make such contacts, and I am very much looking forward to the possibilities that undergraduate study will offer for building further productive relationships with people from all over the world.

The encouragement I have received to enter the business world and the opportunities that I have had to be involved in company life have spurred me on to approach studying economics and business management with enthusiasm. Learning more about business theory and practice whilst studying for the International Baccalaureate has been an engrossing experience, and I have particularly enjoyed preparing my extended essay on economics. I have built on my school studies by reading a wide range of economics and business texts, and also attending talks at institutions such as the Sad Business School. This taste of discussing economics, business and management in the company of leading experts has whetted my appetite for studying Management at university; I am excited about the prospect of building on the knowledge that I have already acquired and also branching out into new aspects of management.

I believe that many of the skills of business and management can be learnt outside of the classroom or the workplace. For example, led by my passion for music, I have persevered with the violin for the last ten years, and recently reaped the rewards of this tenacity by being awarded a certificate for my playing skills. Through holding the responsibility of being a prefect at my school, I have developed man-management skills. Participating in the Model United Nations in 2010 as part of my school’s delegation taught me a great deal about leadership and assertively and confidently communicating the interests of the people I represented. Finally, the voluntary work that I have carried out as part of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and the International Baccalaureate has helped me to understand the importance of working as part of a team towards a common goal. The prospect of making use of these skills in an international business setting in the future fills me with eagerness.

We hope this sample Management personal statement will prove useful when writing a personal statement of your own that will make you stand out from the crowd.
