As a mature student, juggling the responsibilities of a job, household and being a full-time parent, I have certainly experienced the realities and practicalities of running and effectively managing a full and demanding schedule. The principles of effective management can be applied successfully to both running a home and a business. Both require flexibility and a creative approach. However, these must be carefully tempered with an astute and analytical eye.
It is this careful balance between both innovation and analysis that most appeals to me about studying business and marketing management. I have always been an exceptionally determined and motivated individual and forged ahead in sometimes difficult circumstances. For over 10 years, I worked as a legal secretary and also a PA and am particularly interested in the role of people within organisations; managing and developing them to achieve both business and personal potential. My work requires the utmost organisation and provides me with an enormous sense of satisfaction as I always strive to complete tasks to the very highest standard. Having had the experience of working in a demanding and fast-paced profession and now having returned to study, I feel I am very well-equipped to manage and further develop my skills in business management both theoretically and practically.
Having represented myself at The High Court in 2000 during my own divorce proceedings, I am very proud of having reached a satisfactory outcome without the need for further solicitor fees. I believe I have the tenacity and will to succeed in all that I set my mind to and I look forward to exhibiting this trait at university.
Outside of my studies and job, I enjoy reading, cooking and going to the gym. Following my own representation in my divorce proceedings in court, I am also reading further into family law case studies of similar situations.
I am now in a position, both financially and personally, where I am ready and very keen to return to higher education. I have a completed my access to higher education course and it has genuinely been a great realisation to once again be studying and working towards a new and exciting phase in my life.
