Financial Computing Personal Statement

Example Financial Computing Personal Statement

I have always wanted to work within the financial services industry. Investment banking’s global nature and technological edge make it one of the most rewarding fields. As a graduating student of Economics and Law at the University of Leicester, I wish to study for a Masters in Financial Computing. I am excited by the unique opportunities available within this course for students of less technical disciplines, such as undertaking a project at a financial services organization. Working with a partner bank such as Goldman Sachs would allow me to apply and develop my existing research skills in a practical investment bank environment.

I have done all I can alongside my degree to equip myself with the skills to help me succeed. I am trilingual in Persian, Dutch and English, and have 4 A-B grades at A Level. I gained work experience at Endeva Advertising in 2009. I am currently Treasurer of the University of Leicester’s Trading and Investment Society- a role involving organizing meetings and managing budgets- which has been both immensely enjoyable and enriching. I volunteered at the University’s annual law fair for two years and reached the semi-finals of the Law School’s debating competition, learning confidence and accuracy in my English. I also love sport and have played football at a competitive level for 7+ years, including a year at the youth academy of PSV Eindhoven. As team captain I have developed leadership skills as well as discipline and determination. Alongside these activities, I have been working part-time as a croupier at Gala Casino, taking on considerable responsibility.

In the future I wish to work in the technology department of a financial services firm, and I believe that studying Financial Computing will equip me with the skills needed to succeed in this goal.
