Remember it!

  • An official is a referee or umpire who ensures a game is played safely and fairly.
  • Two main types of sports leader are captains and coaches.
  • The captain plays in the game as part of the team, keeps up the other players’ motivation and can suggest a change in tactics.
  • Coaches analyse performances, create appropriate training programmes and are in control of tactics and techniques.
  • The Perfect Model is a mental image which embodies all the correct techniques.
  • Good feedback looks at both a player’s strengths and weaknesses.
  • Motivation is important for sport and is measured in terms of arousal. It can be either intrinsic (internal) or extrinsic (external).
  • Skill training focuses on improving specific skills.
  • Open skills are important for unpredictable play and closed skills when the player has more control.
  • Training techniques come in four types: unopposed, passive opposition, active opposition and pressure training.
  • Strategies can be developed through modified and conditioned games.
