Preparing For The Extended Reading Module

english languageIn the extended reading module you will have to analyse any kind of writing – fiction and non-fiction. You could be required to study an entire text or just part of a bigger text, such as a chapter of a book or a scene in a play.

The assessment is a controlled assessment in which you will have four hours to write 1200 words. In order to do well, you must approach your writing in a clear and structures way. This requires planning. You must think about the characters, ideas and themes present in the text as well as identifying language techniques and presentation features.

To make a plan for your controlled assessment, you should focus on the text’s themes/ideas, characters and how they speak, how the ideas/characters are expressed. In order to do this, you need to identify the language techniques and presentational features. You should then end with a conclusion that summarises your main points and how you have proved them. Don’t forget to use evidence throughout your writing!
