Address and Location
UCLan's main campus is located on the outskirts of Preston. The university also has facilities at two other sites: the Burnley Campus is linked to Burnley College, while the Westlakes Campus is situated at Westlakes Science and Technology Park near Whitehaven, West Cumbria.
ÂBackground and History
UCLan's roots go back to 1828 and the founding of Preston's Institution for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. Over the years, the institute was variously named Harris Art College, Preston Polytechnic and Lancashire Polytechnic, before being awarded university status and the power to award degrees in its own name in 1992.
Location and Accessibility
By Rail: The main UCLan campus is a five-minute walk from Preston train station. Exit the station at Guild Way, then cross the road to Corporation Street. From there the university is ahead on the right.
By Road: Preston is easily accessible from the M6, follow signs for the city centre.
Accessibility: Most university facilities are wheelchair-accessible and accommodation is provided for students with disabilities.
