Address and Location
Gloucestershire University is spread over four campuses, three in Cheltenham and one in Gloucester. The Park, home of the university business school, is set in 24 acres of landscaped grounds near Montpellier, an attractive, lively area of Cheltenham. Francis Close Hall is close to Cheltenham town centre and provides facilities for the university's education, environmental science, humanities and social science courses. Media and art courses are based at nearby Pitville Studios. Oxstalls campus is a five minute drive from the centre of Gloucester and home to the sport, health and social care faculties.
Background and History
Gloucestershire University is the result of merging several HE institutions in the Gloucester-Cheltenham region. In 1992, Cheltenham & Gloucester College of Higher Education was given permission to award degrees. The college received university status in 2001 and was subsequently renamed the University of Gloucestershire.
Location and Accessibility
By Rail: Pitville Studios and Francis Close are a short walk from Cheltenham Station and a mile from The Park. Gloucester Station is a mile from the Oxstalls campus. Bus links are provided between each of the four campuses.
By Road: The university is easily accessible from London and the Midlands via the M4 and M5. From the M5, take Junction 11 and follow signs to Oxford (A40) and the university.
Accessibility: Most university facilities are wheelchair-accessible and prospective students are encouraged to visit before applying. The university bus services provide accessible travel between campuses.
