Dinmor Parc, Wales
Dinmor Parc is an example of a former quarry that has been restored to an area of outstanding beauty. After the quarry closed in the 1980s the whole site was landscaped so that it blended with the coastal area around it. Small stones were scattered to encourage plant and animal life and part of the quarry was converted into a fish farm which provided jobs for the local community.

Overburns (Scotland)
The Clyde Valley in Scotland is an area of outstanding beauty, and received a great deal of revenue in the form of tourism. Now a local developer has applied to open an open cast mine in the area in order to extract its minerals. Some local people have organised a protest and claim the quarry will ruin their beautiful countryside, but the developer says the new quarry will provide income for local people and has promised that the quarry will be landscaped and eventually turned into a nature reserve.
