Accountancy and finance are perhaps the most essential part of any business structure, dealing, as they do, with he fundamental measures of success or failure through which businesses are judged. Having grown up experiencing the importance of accounting within my family’s business, I have gained a strong sense of how rewarding confronting these aspects of business within both work and day to day life can be and have become increasingly more determined to gain the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to allow me to progress in the field.
I have begun my journey towards becoming an accountant by striving to gain a greater sense of the way in which the broader field of business functions. Undertaking a Business Foundation course in 2010, I graduated with a Distinction. This not only demonstrates my dedicating and ability as a student, proving that I can achieve excellent results in any field to which I turn my attention, but also demonstrates that I perform best when that study overlaps with my primary areas of interest. Having completed this course, I have become more and more convinced of my suitability for accounting thanks to my enjoyment of related tasks and modules throughout and my strong performance in them.
I am acutely aware that studying in a foreign language, and within a different cultural context, presents unique challenges but I have worked hard to overcome these. Having scored highly in my Test of English as a Foreign Language, scoring equally highly in reading, listening and writing, I believe I have the language ability to work well within the English language in each of these elements.
Equally, I also believe that studying at a prestigious UK institution will not only offer advantages, as well as these challenges, through offering an excellent standard of education but also through enhancing my global perspective on business and finance. In an increasingly globalised economy, graduating with as much knowledge of international markets and business as possible will put me at a great advantage when applying to gain further experience in multinational companies.
In my spare time, I also try and gain as much information about accountancy ad finance as possible. This may be through speaking to my parents, both of whom are involved in these fields, or through reading related books. I find gaining this additional knowledge extremely fulfilling as it offers insight into various aspects of accountancy that I might want to study in more depth in the future, as well as giving me a better idea of its application in the real world outside of academia. Recently I have found that reading additional material in English, as well as my native Chinese, has also provided extra practice of working within a foreign language that will stand me in good stead for studying in the UK.
I am a hardworking and diligent student with a great attention to detail, all of which is essential within accountancy. I have also demonstrated excellent team working skills throughout my studies that will allow me to form good working relationships with students and staff during future study and will clients and colleagues once I begin my career.
Gaining a qualification from a top UK university will provide the foundation I need for moving into work in a top blue chip company. To do this, I plan to supplement my studies by working towards gaining ACCA certification and using the skill and knowledge I gain to carve out a career with a large multinational firm.
