About The University of Chichester
The University of Chichester is based in West Sussex, England. Chichester has a long history as a settlement, but its Roman past and its subsequent importance in Anglo-Saxon times is only the beginning of its illustrious history. The city today is a local government stronghold, a transport hub, the centre for culture in the region and offers many opportunities for outdoor pursuit. The university is comprised of two campuses; Bishop Otter campus based in the city of Chichester itself and Bognor Campus located in Bognor Regis. The Bishop Otter campus is set in beautiful surroundings with plenty of green space to relax amidst a mixture of historical buildings and modern facilities. The Bognor Campus is just five minutes from the sea and boasts stunning Georgian architecture including three grand mansion houses.
Background and History
The University of Chichester dates back to 1839, after William Otter, who became Bishop of Chichester in 1836, took an earnest interest in the promotion of education. After his death, a training college was set up on what is now the Bishop Otter College campus. In 1873, the College became a training college for women, as a result of a campaign led by Louisa Hubbard to encourage the acceptance of women as teachers. Male students were not introduced until 1957. The Bognor Campus was opened as an emergency teacher training institute immediately after the Second World War in 1946.Location and Accessibility
The Bishop Otter Campus is approximately 16 miles east of Portsmouth, 35 miles west of Brighton and about 60 miles south of London.
Rail: Chichester is approximately 1hr 35mins from London Victoria (direct route). Chichester train station is a 20 minute walk from the Chichester campus.
Road: There are excellent road links to both Chichester and Bognor Regis.

Faculties and Departments
Chichester Campus: This campus has a Learning Resources Centre (LRC) which is the hub of the learning environment. Equipped with two floors of library resources, one for silent study and one for quiet group study, ample places to plug in laptops, access to a large number of open access workstations (Mac and PC), and a specialist media centre. In Summer 2012, a major refurbishment of the building was completed to further enhance resources and introduce a cafe, complete with ample social study areas.Bognor Campus underwent extensive redevelopment during 2010-11. £8m has been invested to transform the Dome into a vibrant business and research centre, and to create a state-of-the-art Learning Resource Centre.On-site Amenities
The University of Chichester Student Union provides representation, clubs and societies, social provision, support, information and entertainment. Two elected sabbatical officers and the permanent staff operate the day to day running of the union. The SU has a bar and shop on each site, as well as an art shop situated in the ArtOne building. The Bognor Campus is close to Hotham Park, the seaside resort and beaches.
