About Wakefield College

Wakefield College is a Further and Higher Education provider in West Yorkshire, with over 15,000 students enrolled at the institution. It operates from three major campuses and has a host of learning centres situated across the county.  

Background and history

The college has provided education to the Wakefield area since 1868 and has expanded over the years. In the 1950s, it was known as the Wakefield Technical College becoming the Wakefield Technical and Arts College in the early 1960s and the Wakefield College of Technology and Arts in 1973. In 1974, it became administered by the City of Wakefield.

Facilities at Wakefield College

Wakefield City Campus is home to Gaskell's the trainee-ran restaurant, a well-being clinic, a well-stocked learning resource centre and a student refectory serving hot and cold food and beverages.

 Thornes Pack Campus includes a 200-seat theatre with dedicated dance, drama, recital and rehearsal rooms, professional standard recording studio facilities, sports hall, gymnasium and fitness testing laboratory, and multimedia suites with the latest software for digital imaging, video editing, animation and web design.

Castleford is home to the resident professional hair and beauty salons, including a nail bar, all open to the public, Industry standard workshops for a wide range of disciplines, and a redeveloped, state-of-the-art Learning Resource Centre.
