About St Mary's University, Twickenham

St Mary's University College is a university college situated in Strawberry Hill, Twickenham in South West London. Founded in 1850, it is generally acknowledged to be the oldest Roman Catholic college in the UK. The University has a strong reputation as a teacher training college but also offers renowned sports rehabilitation degrees and programmes amongst many other courses. St Mary's is a modern, friendly university college offering the best of both worlds: with just under 4,000 students it's easy to feel at home quickly, but it's big enough to offer you all the challenges and excitement of a full and rewarding student life. The buildings are steeped in history, being set in the grounds of the original Strawberry Hill mansion, a world famous example of the Gothic Revival style. The leafy, self-contained campus also includes modern and well-resourced teaching blocks, accommodation, Learning Resources Centre and sport facilities.

Accommodation at St Mary's University, Twickenham

The Accommodation Office at St Mary's deals primarily with arranging student accommodation in halls of residence, but also offer advice to help students find off campus accommodation. They endeavour to offer students a room in halls for their first year, although there is always very high demand for accommodation on campus so they cannot guarantee all first years will be successful in their application for a room.

St Mary's offers nearly 500 undergraduate degree programmes. Many subjects can be combined, offering you flexibility and choice to shape your studies the way you want to. They also offer PGCE programmes, Masters programmes and a range of professional short courses.

Facilities at St Mary's University, Twickenham

Located in the heart of the St Mary's Sports Village is the University College's new state-of-the-art sports centre. The £8.5m facility benefits a wide range of academic, recreational and professional users. These include St Mary's students and staff, local schools, community clubs and sports teams. The Sports facilities on the main campus and at Teddington Lock include a studio, an artificial pitch, a gymnasium and 30 acres of playing fields. In addition, National Governing Bodies including the English Institute of Sport are based at St Mary's, and use the facilities to provide training and support to elite and world class sports performers.

Dance Studio - The studio has a sprung floor, a surround sound sound system, a galleried lighting system and mirrored wall. This facility is used for dance and drama performances, aerobic and fitness sessions, boxing and martial arts.

Learning Resources Centre - The Learning Resources Centre is located at the centre of the campus and houses the University College's library and computing services. It holds around 120,000 books and subscribes to 450 printed journals. Students have access to the full text of over 3,000 online journals through databases including EBSCO, LexisNexis and Science Direct.

The LRC has a range of different study spaces, including group, quiet and silent areas, and around 130 computer workstations. The adjoining i-Learn Cafe is a relaxed social learning environment somewhere between an IT lab and a coffee bar. It is a place where students can use PCs, chat or work in groups with few restrictions.

All students have access to the internet, email, Microsoft Office applications and Wi-Fi network in the LRC. With swipe controlled entry there is access to IT facilities for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
