About The University of Southampton

Address and Location

Spread over six campuses, the University of Southampton enjoys a reputation as one of the best in the UK. Four of the six sites are in the city itself; the Winchester School of Art is in Winchester and a satellite campus exists in Malaysia for engineering students. The main campus, Highfield, is green and peaceful despite being only a short walk from the city centre.

Background and History

Established as the Harley Institute in 1862, the University of Southampton is one of the UK's leading research institutions. Granted the right to award its own degrees in 1952, the university is a founding member of the Russell Group, whose members pride themselves on academic excellence and high quality tuition for students.
