About Pembrokeshire College

Pembrokeshire College is the county's largest post-16 provider of further education with a main campus in Haverford west and around 40 outreach centres across the county. It enrols around 8,500 students a year and recently upgraded its services with a £4 million Construction Centre and £3.5 million Engineering Wing.

 

Background and history

The college recently updated its campuses with a regeneration scheme that saw the building of a £4m Construction Centre, plus a £3.5m Engineering Wing. The college holds a reputation for its Engineering and Construction departments with both awarded an 'Outstanding' Grade 1 from Estyn in 2007.

 

Location and accessibility

The college is served by the 35 bus, with nearby train and national coach services linking the county with Wales and England.For international students, Cardiff is the nearest airport, with regular bus and train links to Haverford west.

 

What's on offer?

The college has over 40 learning centres throughout the county and thus has a significant outreach. Studies ranging from entry level to honours degrees are available at the college, with HE provided by a partnership with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.There are 33 A/AS-levels on offer, plus 17 BTEC courses equivalent to 3 A-levels.

Courses & Fees

In addition to A-levels and vocational courses, the college also offers a range of HNDs, diplomas and foundation degrees. Subject areas within the institution are:

A-Levels, Art, Media Performing Arts, Beauty Hair, Business Management, Computing IT, Construction, Education, Engineering, Health Childcare, Hospitality, Catering Travel, Landbased Animal Care, Languages, Marine, Science Maths, Sport Public Services, Workskills Bridging.

In addition, the college also runs apprenticeships and work-based learning programmes.

  Finance and funding

The college provides means for financial assistance with EMA, Assembly Learning Grants, Financial Contingency Funds, STEM Scholarships and Army Bursaries all available to students studying FE courses. HE students can get assistance with maintenance loans and tuition fees, as well as grants for part-time study.

Facilities at Pembrokeshire College

The Academy Restaurant, plus the coffee shop and bistro are run entirely by the college's catering and hospitality students. It is open term-time and bookings can be made on 01437 753 165.

   

The Hair Beauty Salons are a dual commercial and work-based learning facility with treatments carried out by students either learning or updating their hairdressing, beauty therapy or complementary skills.

 

The Equine Centre is based at Bowlings Riding Stables, the centre offers practical riding and stable management tuition, and offers a 20x40m indoor school and an outside course with over 30 fences.

 

The Learning Resource Centre is a mixture of traditional library services, electronic resources and study areas, with an extensive and detailed online library search service.

 

Sports students will have access to the College's well-equipped fitness suite with a range of cardiovascular and resistance equipment and free weights. College staff also have free access to this facility.
