About Liverpool Hope University

Address and Location

Liverpool Hope has two main teaching campuses. Hope Park is situated in a leafy suburb of Liverpool, while the Creative Campus is situated in the city centre. Both locations have seen major investment over the last five years, so that traditional architecture now sits beside contemporary buildings and facilities.

Background and History

With a history stretching back to the mid-nineteenth century, Liverpool Hope has a strong tradition of scholarship and research in creative and academic disciplines. As the only ecumenical university foundation in Europe, the university's work has been shaped by Christian principles but embraces students of all faiths and none. Two of its three founding colleges were established in 1844 and 1856, and the third in the 1960s.

Location and accessibility

By Rail: The Creative Campus is less than a mile away from Liverpool's main railway station, Liverpool Lime Street. For the Hope Park campus visitors should travel to Lime Street then catch a bus to Childwall Valley Road or Woolton Road/Taggart Avenue. Alternatively, Broadgreen Railway Station is a mile-walk from the campus.

By Road: Visitors of the Creative Campus should travel to Liverpool city centre. Hope Park is situated on Taggart Avenue and is accessible from Queen's Drive (A5058) at the end of the M62. University residences at Aigburth Park are situated on St. Michael's Road, just off the A561.

Accessibility: Most university facilities are wheelchair-accessible and accommodation is provided for students with disabilities.

A full range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees are available, includin, gA, BSc, PGCE, MBA, MA, MSc, EdD and PhD programmes.

Academic Strengths and Research Profile

Research forms a central part of Liverpool Hope's academic life and vision. The university collaborates with external research partners within the business and community sectors to pursue industry-specific study. In the past the institution has chosen to stay outside of university league rankings, in the belief that league tables do not compare like with like and are therefore of limited use.

Tuition Fees

Undergraduate courses currently cost £9,000 per year. Fees for international students and postgraduates vary.

Financial Support: A variety of scholarships and means-tested bursaries are available to undergraduates and postgraduates. Check the university website for more details.

Facilities at Liverpool Hope University

Academic Facilities

The university's Sheppard-Worlock Library has recently undergone major refurbishment and now offers a wider and improved range of learning spaces, especially for group-working. Laboratory and workshop facilities at the university are generally of a good standard.   Other on-site Amenities In addition to various bars, restaurants and cafes, students benefit from theStrive Fitness Suite at Hope Park, a modern facility with treadmills, steppers, cross-trainers, exercise bikes and rowing machines.

Medical and Social Care

The university students' union provides a range of support systems for students, and a chaplaincy is on hand for faith-related matters and counselling.

What's on in the Area

Liverpool's galleries are home to several masterworks of art and many excellent museums. As is to be expected, choices for evening entertainment are vast; for live dance and art students can visit the Bluecoat or stay on-campus and enjoy live music at the university Union.

Moving On

Liverpool Hope provides a dedicated careers service, offering students advice and support when searching for work-experience and postgraduate employment.

Did you know?

Hope's philosophy is to educate in the round', 'fostering a healthy mind, body and spirit in the quest for truth, beauty and goodness'.

Is Liverpool Hope University right for you?

For vocational and professional courses at a campus university, Liverpool Hope offers an interesting alternative to other Midlands institutions like Leeds Metropolitan and Manchester Metropolitan. The university's hesitation to be included in league tables means judging it on academic terms is difficult, however.
