Information
About The University of Lincoln
Set on the site of one of the most important Roman cities in Britain, Lincoln or
Lindum Colonia is comprised of a main campus and four additional locations. The university and Lincoln city centre are only a short walk apart, making it nearly impossible to escape the area's friendly student atmosphere.
Background and History
Priding itself on the traditional values of freedom of thought and speech, Lincoln's roots can be traced back as far as 1861, though it did not become a university until the late 20
th century. In 1995, the Lincolnshire Foundation was born, a community-run charity that aimed to bring a university to the city of Lincoln. The foundation's diligent campaigning and voluntary work eventually paid off, raising over £30 million. Her Majesty The Queen opened the first university building on Brayford campus in 1996.

Road: At 40 miles east of Nottingham and 40 miles south of the Humber Bridge, Lincoln is easily reached from most directions. One of Britain's great small cities, Lincoln offers a vibrant, friendly and safe student experience. Lincoln Cathedral is one of Europe's finest medieval buildings and can be seen for miles around, while the boutiques and specialist shops on Steep Hill and Bailgate boost the enjoyment of any shopping trip. Craft fairs and farmers' markets regularly make an appearance in Lincoln and, during the colder months, the city welcomes its world-famous Christmas Market. Eating out in Lincoln, you will find everything from Italian and Indian to Chinese, Thai and Japanese. Lincoln also offers a wide array of pubs and clubs and is within easy access of London, Nottingham, Sheffield and Leeds.
Moving On
The number of Lincoln graduates who achieve employment within six months is far above the national average. This is due, in part, to the university's collaboration with regional and international business. Lincoln has received course accreditation from various industry bodies, including the Nursery and Midwifery Council, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and the Law Society. The university's Careers and Employability Service has a dedicated team who provide students with the necessary support for entering the world of work.
