Information

About The University of Huddersfield

The University of Huddersfield's main campus is the Queensgate Campus, based in Huddersfield town centre. There are two other campuses in Barnsley and Oldham, both of which opened in 2005 to make higher education more readily available to people in both towns and the surrounding area. They offer a range of full and part-time courses, though courses at the Oldham campus are run by Oldham College but validated by the University of Huddersfield.

Background and History

The University of Huddersfield acquired university status in 1992, having been Huddersfield Polytechnic since 1970. However, its roots stretch back to 1841 with the formation of the Young Men's Mental Improvement Society.

Accommodation at The University of Huddersfield

University Accommodation

Incoming students have a choice between Storthes Hall Park Student Village and Ashenhurst Student Houses, the University's recommended and approved halls of residence. But where choice is limited, rent is certainly cheaper compared to other universities in Yorkshire.

Private Accommodation

You may prefer a flat/house share if you don't fancy university accommodation. Again, rent is comparatively cheap compared to other student areas, such as Leeds.

What's on in the Area

Huddersfield town centre is home to a wide choice of shops, pubs, restaurants and night clubs. It is also home to a number of annual cultural festivals, whilst football fans may be interested to know that Huddersfield Town FC play a hugely expansive form of football at the impressive Galpharm Stadium.

Is the University of Huddersfield the place for you?

Come to the University of Huddersfield if you enjoy a friendly, community atmosphere on campus and in the town itself: Huddersfield was named the third happiest town in the UK in a survey carried out by property portal, Rightmove. It is a modern university that has undergone much investment, yet living costs are relatively low. Furthermore, the university has enjoyed much progress in terms of league table positions: something employers will recognise. The University of Huddersfield has an excellent reputation for Chemistry. If this is the sort of course that interests you, but the homely, compact campus doesn't, have a look at the University of Reading or Newcastle University.
