The Guildhall School of Music Drama was established in 1880 and since then it has become one of the world's leading conservatoires and drama schools. Students who attend this independent music and dramatic arts school can choose from courses in 4 major fields: Music, Opera, Drama, and Technical Theatre Arts.
The Guardian University Guide rated the school as the No. 1 specialised institution in the UK. The School prides itself upon its research activities, bringing students and staff together to explore fundamental questions of artistic and professional practice. The Guildhall School of Music Drama offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes as well as the Junior Guildhall, a Saturday School for students from 4 to 18 years of age.
Guildhall School of Music DramaSilk StreetThe Guildhall School of Music Drama is housed at The Silk Street building which is attached to the Barbican Centre. In the past years, the school has opened another centre at Milton Court. The Silk Street building includes a 196-seat Music Hall, an 80-seat Lecture Recital Room, and a 308-seat theatre, which are also open to the public. The building also has numerous practice and teaching rooms, theatrical workshops, music, recording sound studios.
The Milton Court includes facilities such as a 608-seat concert hall, a 223-seat training theatre, a studio theatre and other teaching spaces.
Sundial Court, located nearby, is the school's halls of residence, housing the School Bar, drama rehearsal space and Student Support Services.
Guildhall School of Music Drama also has facilities at the John Hosier Annexe, John Trundle Court, and at the Barbican Centre.
