Arts University Bournemouth (formerly The Arts University College at Bournemouth and The Arts Institute at Bournemouth) is a further and higher education university college based in Poole, specialising in arts, performance, design, and media. Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) was named No.1 creative university in the which? University 2012 survey.

Background and History

Established in 1885 as a specialist institution, Arts University Bournemouth is now a leading University offering high quality specialist education in art, design, media and performance across the creative industries. AUB is one of only fifteen higher education institutions in the UK devoted solely to the study of art, design and media. The University has been providing specialist education for over a century and enjoys a strong reputation, both nationally and internationally.

Location and Accessibility

The University is situated between Bournemouth and Poole in Dorset on the South Coast of England. Bournemouth has a large cosmopolitan student population and one of the most vibrant club scenes outside London. London itself is less than two hours away and is easily reached by regular train and coach services or via good motorway links. Bournemouth and Southampton both have international airports providing good value flights to more than 50 destinations. Bournemouth airport is currently undergoing a £45 million redevelopment programme which will include the installation of Cat III navigation and lighting aids, a new international arrivals hall, plus improved check in, security and departure hall facilities. The redevelopment will be phased over the next couple of years. There are also regular sea crossings to the Continent from Poole and Southampton.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for FE diploma and Foundations diplomas vary, however as a general rule they require:

  • 4 GCSE passes at grade C or above (including English, Maths and Art/Design/Media- or Intermediate GNVQ in Art and; Design (Level 2), preferably Merit or Distinction grade.
  • Plus two A-Level or vocational A level passes at grade C or above (for the Foundation Diploma)

Entry to undergraduate courses vary. For prospective Masters and PhD students a first or upper second class BA or Master's is required. For more information on entry requirements visit the university website.
